George Tyson for Santa Clara Co. Board of Education

GT headshot resizedWelcome to GeorgeTyson.org, home of my campaign for seat #2 on the Santa Clara County Board of Education.  On the left, you'll find more information on my personal, professional, and education background, a list of my current endorsements, and ways to contribute or contact me directly.

I owe so much to the public school education that I received.  That's why I'm running - to give back to our community, and bring this same opportunity to our children, who represent tomorrow's leaders.  I hope you'll see, from the information presented here, that I'm a tireless worker for educational programs that work, and that I have the business, problem-solving, and team-building skills to be an effective force on the County Board.

"T.N. Ho is retiring from this area, which runs from Los Altos to Los Gatos.  There are three qualified candidates to succeed him, but former Cupertino Union trustee George Tyson is the most likely to bring a thoughtful approach to the board - and to avoid getting sucked into its drama.

Tyson, a biotech executive, is a tireless volunteer and president of the West Valley Community Services board.  But education is his passion, and it shows in his ability to speak with authority about the issues.  He's served at every level, from the PTA to the school board, and those who have worked with him say he is calm, smart, a great listener and an extraordinary collaborator, just what this dysfunctional board needs.

Lynette Lee Eng is a knowledgeable community volunteer, but in some corners she is viewed as divisive.  That might be why she's failed in three previous runs for elective office.  Former Cupertino mayor and school board member Michael Chang, a De Anza instructor, has a raft of impressive endorsements but doesn't display much understanding of the county office (He told us he was "still learning.")  We suspect he views this role as a stepping stone; it needs more serious attention."
